Why Aqua Detox Is Controversial, And What You Should Be Using Instead
An aqua detox is a method of eliminating toxins from the body using a water bath, fortified with salt and a mild electric current. Opinions on this treatment are both divided and heated. The theory is that the electric current combined with the salt solution draws toxins through the feet of the patient, resulting in a cleansed and purified body.
The water will change color to brown, and that is seen as evidence that toxins are leaving the body. Many reviewers have strongly disputed this, claiming that the changing color is due entirely to the effects of the electric current on the salt in the water.
There is certainly no shortage of reviewers who are ready to call this treatment a scam. This doesn't necessarily mean it is a scam, as often the scientific community is all too quick to dismiss something which later on turns out to be genuine. A good example of this is the lemon detox treatment, which is now an accepted way of detoxifying the body.
As of now, the Food and Drug Administration has not tested the device. It is marketed with disclaimers, as it has no official approval. Some scientific tests have been carried out, using the electrodes in the salt with water with and without human feet. The results suggested that the water would turn a brown color due to electrolysis, whether or not there were human feet in the water, and that therefore the treatment was a deception.
All that can be said with total certainty at the moment is that research is ongoing, as is controversy. It would be unwise at this stage to part with money for such a device on the off chance that it turned out to be effective, especially when there are so many other forms of detox which are proven to be effective, and which can be implemented for the same money.
Some clinics actually charge money for these treatments, even though there is no evidence as yet that they are effective. It is obviously not a good idea to be spending money like this, unless you consider that the relaxing soak of your feet alone is worth the money you are paying.
Water detox may yet turn out to be a valid method for cleansing the body, but as of now it seems a little unlikely. There are other methods available to you which have stood the test of time, and which are easy and cheap to put into practice. There is nothing cheaper and easier than simply buying a carton of fruit juice from the local supermarket, and drinking that for a day.
Whether treatments such as a water detox work or whether they don't, the important consideration is always the overall condition of your health. There are many other ways to spend money more effectively, and the first consideration should always be your overall lifestyle and diet. Spend some time learning about the effects of food on the body, and formulate an individual program based on your own needs. This will be a better use for your money than an aqua detox.
